High-Voltage Insulating Mats

High-Voltage Insulating Mats

Electrical safety is paramount in any industrial facility. High-Voltage Insulating Mats are specialized, dielectric rubber floor coverings designed to protect operators, maintenance staff, and engineers from lethal electrical shocks while working in front of open switchboards, high-voltage equipment, and live control panels.

ACC Insulations supplies premium-grade electrical insulating mats that rigorously adhere to Indian Standard "IS 15652:2006" and International Standard "IEC 61111". Replacing outdated, unsafe ribbed rubber mats, our modern elastomeric mats provide superior slip resistance, extreme dielectric strength, and a much longer operational lifespan.

Why Use Specialized Electrical Mats?

Standard rubber mats can degrade, crack, or conduct electricity if exposed to oils or acids. Our IS-compliant insulating mats act as a continuous, impenetrable grounding barrier, preventing electrical current from traveling through the operator’s body to the earth in the event of an accidental live-wire contact.

Voltage Class Specifications (IS 15652:2006)
Class Thickness Working Voltage Proof Voltage
Class A 2.0 mm Up to 3.3 kV 10 kV
Class B 2.5 mm Up to 11 kV 22 kV
Class C 3.0 mm Up to 33 kV 36 kV

Material Properties & Construction

Our insulating mats are manufactured from a highly specialized elastomer—a blend of rubber and advanced polymers. Unlike older, corrugated rubber mats, these modern mats are:

  • Completely Washable: Smooth tops with a micro-textured finish allow for easy cleaning of dust, grease, and industrial grime.
  • Halogen-Free: In the event of a fire in the switchgear room, these mats will not emit toxic or corrosive halogen gases, ensuring personnel safety and protecting sensitive electronics.
  • Mechanically Tough: Highly resistant to tearing, puncturing, and abrasion from heavy boots and dropped tools.

Key Features & Safety Certifications

  • Acid & Oil Resistance: Does not degrade when exposed to transformer oil, lubricants, or battery acids.
  • Extreme Temperature Tolerance: Remains flexible and effective in temperatures ranging from -10°C to +55°C without cracking.
  • Anti-Slip Surface: Engineered with a fine "dotted" or "checkerboard" texture to provide maximum grip for operators.
  • Fire Retardant: Self-extinguishing properties prevent the spread of flame across the control room floor.
  • Tested & Certified: Every batch undergoes rigorous ERDA/CPRI testing for dielectric proof voltage before dispatch.

Typical Applications

These mats are a mandatory safety requirement for:

  • HT/LT Switchgear Rooms and Substation Control Panels
  • Motor Control Centers (MCC) and Power Control Centers (PCC)
  • Transformer Rooms and Generator Testing Bays
  • Lift Machine Rooms and Elevator Controls
  • Battery Rooms in UPS and Inverter installations

Safety Compliance Check

Not sure which class of mat your facility requires? Our team can help you select the exact IS 15652 Class (A, B, or C) required by local electrical inspectorates based on your plant's working voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these mats better than the old ribbed rubber mats?

Yes. The older IS 5424 ribbed rubber mats are obsolete and prone to cracking, which breaks the dielectric seal. Our IS 15652 elastomer mats are highly flexible, puncture-resistant, and completely non-porous.

How often should High-Voltage mats be replaced?

While the elastomer material is highly durable, industry safety standards generally recommend replacing the mats every 24 to 36 months, or immediately if any deep cuts, tears, or chemical burns are visible on the surface.

How do I install them? Can they be glued to the floor?

The mats are typically laid loose directly in front of the electrical panels. They are heavy enough to stay in place without shifting. We do not recommend gluing them down, as this makes the mandatory periodic visual inspection of the underside difficult.

Do the mats come with a test certificate?

Absolutely. Every supply of our High-Voltage Insulating Mats is accompanied by a routine Manufacturer’s Test Certificate confirming the batch has passed the specified proof voltage test.
